Our story starts with a journey through Optometry in the Philippines that took Jun Fernandez to the deserts of Riyadh to and ultimately, to New York City. Back in 1991, Jun Fernandez was grinding it out as a lab technician in Dayton, Ohio, working for $100, 6 days a week putting in 12 hours a day and, believe it or not, handing out flyers on the side. Humble beginnings, right?
Recognizing a need for high-quality, affordable eyewear, he embarked on a mission to create a line of minimalist frames that could compete with established brands. Through a strategic partnership with a leading Canadian company and an insightful trip to Mido in Milan in early 2024, Jun secured the perfect manufacturing partner to bring Blakspecs and CRATR to life. In September 2024, the first batch of frames was delivered, reflecting our vision of premium eyewear that is both stylish and accessible.
